Bitcoin extended its rally on Thursday after crossing the $30,000 mark for the second time this year the day before. The cryptocurrency has been on an upward trajectory since last week after BlackRock announced it had applied to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for a spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF). Separately, bitcoin options contracts worth $3.3 billion changed hands Wednesday across major exchanges including Deribit, the highest single-day notional volume in three months.
